Getting tested and treated for TB can protect yourself, your family and friends and your community.<\/p><p>People with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tb\/about\/inactive-tuberculosis.html\">inactive TB<\/a>\u00a0do\u00a0not\u00a0have symptoms of TB disease. However, without\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tb\/treatment\/inactive-tuberculosis.html\">treatment<\/a>, they can develop active TB disease and become sick.<\/p><p>It is spread through the air from person to person when someone with active TB disease coughs, speaks, or sings. TB usually affects the lungs, but it can also affect other parts of the body, such as the brain, the kidneys or the spine.\u00a0Without\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tb\/treatment\/active-tuberculosis-disease.html\">treatment<\/a>, active TB disease can be fatal.<\/p><p>Both inactive TB (also called latent TB infection) and active TB disease can be treated. There are several safe and effective treatment plans recommended in the United States. CDC recommends that people that are at increased risk* should be tested for TB. There are two types of tests that can find TB infection:<\/p><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tb\/testing\/skin-test.html\">TB skin test<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tb\/testing\/blood-test.html\">TB blood test<\/a><\/li><\/ul><p>If your TB blood test or skin test result is positive, you have TB germs in your body. Your health care provider will do\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tb\/testing\/diagnosing-tuberculosis.html\">other tests<\/a>\u00a0to determine if you have inactive TB or active TB disease. These tests may include a chest x-ray, and a test of the sputum (phlegm) you cough up.<\/p><p>If you think you have been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tb\/exposure\/index.html\">exposed<\/a>\u00a0to someone with active TB disease, you should contact your health care provider or the Tulsa Health Department about getting a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tb\/testing\/index.html\">TB blood test or TB skin test<\/a>. Be sure to tell the health care provider when you spent time with the person who has active TB disease.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-db622a9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"db622a9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>TB Testing Locations<\/h2><p>TB skin testing for all age groups is conducted at the locations below with appointments preferred or on walk-in basis. <a href=\"https:\/\/tulsa-health.org\/services\/testing-and-immunizations\/tb-testing\/#tb-testing-locations\">Hours and availability vary by location<\/a>. There is no charge for TB testing if you have been exposed to an active case, are considered at increased risk* or have symptoms. There is a charge for other TB testing such as blood testing which is $48. The symptoms of TB disease of the lungs also include coughing, chest pain, and the coughing up of blood. Symptoms of TB disease in other parts of the body depend on the area affected.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>People who have spent time with someone who has TB disease.<\/li><li>Persons referred by a private physician or clinic.<\/li><li>People from a country where TB disease high incidence of TB disease.<\/li><li>People who live or work in a high-risk setting (i.e., correctional facilities, long-term care facilities or nursing homes, drug and alcohol recovery facilities and homeless shelters)<\/li><li>People that have risk factors for disease reactivation:<ul><li>People with HIV<\/li><li>People with inject illegal drugs<\/li><li>People who are sick with other diseases that weaken the immune system<\/li><li>Elderly people<\/li><li>People who were not treated correctly for TB in the
